Active Grants
National Science Foundation (NSF 23-506). "AI-Ready Institution Transforming Tomorrow’s Research and Education with AI for Health and Security (Jag-AI)." 01/01/2024--12/31/2026. $385,313. Role: Co-PI.
This project supports foundational research into the trade-offs between reliability, security, and efficiency in modern AI systems to meet future societal needs. The grant establishes a dedicated AI infrastructure for research and education at A&M-SA, significantly enhancing our faculty and student research capacity. Ultimately, the project focuses on developing the next generation of AI talent through advanced training and hands-on research opportunities.
To date, the research supported by this grant has resulted in five peer-reviewed publications, including papers in top-tier Q1 journals and prestigious AI conferences.
Completed Grants
Google. CAHSI-Google Institutional Research Program. "Mitigating Bias in Class-Imbalanced Image Synthesis Models." 09/15/2024--09/14/2025. $34,795. Role: PI.
This project pioneers a new framework to address fairness in generative AI by being the first to apply contrastive learning to diffusion models to improve the quality and representation of underrepresented classes in image synthesis, ensuring fairer and more equitable outcomes.
This research has already led to two publications currently under review at top-tier venues, including the ICLR conference and the IEEE J-STARS journal.
